Three men discover that the Book of Mormon manuscript promises that three would see the record that Joseph has kept from everyone.  They ask to be those witnesses.  Meanwhile, inhabitants of the various surrounding towns grow more and more nervous of Joseph Smith and his family spreading deception, and resort to false witness in order to quell the effort.
