An angel transfers the care of a sacred record, made of golden plates, to a 21-year-old Joseph Smith. He's given a strict charge not to show them, but enough people hear of them, that they are trying to discover the plates before Joseph does. A race ensues. Joseph tries to give people access to prophets. Others want the plates for their own profit.
